The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu (abbreviated IIT Jammu) is a public research university located in Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir, India. The Institute came into existence in 2016 when a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Department of Higher Education, Government of Jammu & Kashmir and Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, was signed, setting the ball rolling to set up an IIT campus at village Jagti, Tehsil Nagrota at Jammu. The institute is mentored by IIT Delhi.

Getting into IIT Jammu – Admissions
- It is a two-step process. One needs to qualify the JEE (Main) exam and then take the JEE (Advanced) exam.
- One must have secured at least 75% marks (65% for SC/ST/PwD) in Class XII OR One must be within the category-wise top 20 percentile in his/her respective Class XII board examination.
- Admissions are done on the basis of rank in JEE (Advanced) through JoSAA Counselling.

B.Tech admission at IITJAMMU is done through online counseling. Counseling organized by the college is held for those candidates who are shortlisted through the screening process on the basis of marks obtained by the candidate in JEE. After the allotment of seat candidates need to submit the requisite fee and required documents for verification.

Merit-cum-Means Scholarships are awarded to deserving (up to 25%) B.Tech. students. In addition, the Institute provides financial assistance (Tuition fee waiver) to some students with special family financial circumstances.

Facilities at IIT Jammu
The on-campus facilities include hostel accommodation for all students closer to academic area, cafeteria, open gym, indoor gym, laundry centers, digital classrooms, ubiquitous anytime WiFi, music room, TT tables, snooker table, Medical Unit with 24-hour paramedic staff, student counselling, a common hall with TV, open spaces for in campus recreational activities. ICICI and J&K Banks have set up their ATMs alongside the hostels near the cafeteria. The present kick-off campus (25 acres) is self-sufficient for the student population for next couple of years. Complete campus is now going to come up at the same site (409 acres).
