IIT Madras

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras, inaugurated in 1959, is the first of the IITs to be established and acknowledged as an Institute of National Importance. The autonomous statutory organization provides undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs with 16 disciplines in Engineering, Management, Science, and Humanities. IITM secured the first position among engineering colleges by the National Institute Ranking Framework in 2019. The institute also acquired the top place in the maiden edition of Atal Rankings of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA), Government of India in the same year.

IIT Madras Admission Procedure

IIT Madras undertakes admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses through written entrance examinations. All IITs conducts admission to undergraduate programmes with a secure Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE). Candidates qualifying this examination will be eligible for a four year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree, and a five year dual degree (Integrated course). Students qualifying Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) are eligible for a two year Master of Technology (M.Tech.) at IITM.

IIT Madras Fee Structure

Tuition fee is waived off for SC/ST/PwD category students and for UR/EWS/OB-NCL category students with income limit less than 1 lakh rupees per annum.
The other  economically backward students with family income between 1 lakh rupees to 5 lakhs per annum will get remission of two-third of the tuition fee

Placement Statistics of IIT Madras 2019

In 2019, IIT Madras has witnessed 1300 students attending the placement drive and a total of 1015 job offers were extended from 246 companies that had registered for placements. The offers included 21 international offers and 136 PPOs. A few of the peak companies that visited the campus involve McKinsey & Company, ZS Associates, Flipkart, Citi Bank, Gulf Oil Lubricants India Ltd., Tata Consultancy Services, and 51 start-ups.

IIT Madras brought up the initiative of the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) in 2003 with a motive for upgrading the quality of higher education in India. The technical institute offers residential accommodation for its faculty, students, administrative staff, and their families. IITM owns the fastest supercomputing facility among the educational institutes of the country. The institute houses a heritage centre that conducts various exhibitions including photography, painting, portraits, publications, documents, and developed products. The campus comprises of two schools, three temples, three bank branches, a hospital, a gym, shopping and food centre, cricket, hockey, badminton, and football stadiums.
