Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune

Armed Forces Medical College is a top-notch medical institute of India, located in Pune, Maharashtra. As the name suggests, the college is managed by the Indian Armed Forces. Ever since its establishment in the year 1948, the college has served as a centre of excellence for education and research. The college provides training to under-graduate and post-graduate medical and nursing students with assured career prospects in the Indian Defense Services. It has a highly educated team of 285 faculty members. The institute is presently affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and is recognized by the MCI for conducting undergraduate and various post graduate medical courses. AFMC offers 130 seats for MBBS admissions every year.

MBBS

Candidate must have passed all the subjects opted for in the first attempt of the qualifying examinations as a regular candidate with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken simultaneously and securing not less than 60% of the aggregate marks in these 3 science subjects taken together and not less than 50% marks in English and 50% marks in each of the science subjects. They must have also passed an examination in Mathematics of the 10th standard.

BSc Nursing

Only female candidates who have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible to apply. They should have scored an aggregate of not less than 50 % marks in the final exams and should have passed the exam in the first attempt.

MD / MS

MBBS degree from a recognized medical college

DM / MCh

MD / MS in Medicine from any recognized University

Exam Pattern

MBBS:

  • Entrance Examination: NEET UG
  • Exam Mode: Offline
  • Number of Questions: Physics and Chemistry sections include 45 questions each, while the Biology section comprises 90 questions
  • Exam Duration: 3 hours
  • Marking Pattern: Candidates will be awarded 4 marks for each correct response while 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response.

MD / MS/ PG Diploma:

  • Entrance Examination: NEET PG
  • Exam Mode: Computer Based Test
  • Exam Duration: 3 hours and 30 minutes
  • Number of Questions: 200
  • Exam Syllabus: 3 sections; clinical, pre-clinical and para-clinical subjects. 
  • Marking Pattern: Candidates will be awarded 4 marks for each correct response while 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response.

DM / MCh:

  • Entrance Examination: NEET SS
  • Exam Mode: Computer Based Test
  • Exam Duration: for single paper: 1 hour 45 minutes and for combined paper: 3 hours
  • Number of Questions: 100
  • Exam Syllabus: Question paper shall be separately prepared for single and combined speciality.
  • Marking Pattern: Candidates will be awarded 4 marks for each correct response while 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response.

Admission Process

MBBS:

BSc Nursing:

  • The selection will be based on the merit of the candidate at an All-India level.
  • A written objective type of examination will be conducted in February/ March every year, at certain selected centres (Published from time to time.) Successful candidates will be called for an interview at selected centres in the month of April/May each year. Candidates must be declared medically fit. The fitness will be determined by a Medical Board of Military Medical Officers. Merit listed candidates based on the interview and medical fitness will be called for B. Sc. (Nsg) course. The students undergoing BSc nursing training will be granted permanent and Short Service Commission at a ratio of 60:40 based on their merit. The short service commission students are required to execute a bond of agreement to serve in the Military Nursing Service for a minimum period of 5yrs on successful completion of the course.

MD, MS:

  • Admissions to these courses are through NEET-PG.

DM, MCh, PhD:

  • Admission to these curses will be Merit-based followed by Scores obtained in the AFMC Entrance Exam conducted by the Institute.
