About Kasturba Medical College (KMC)

Kasturba Medical College (KMC) Manipal, Karnataka was established as the first self-financing private medical college in India. Established by Dr. T.M.A. Pai on 30 June 1953, KMC Manipal spread in area of 648 acres is one of the premier medical colleges of our country. It has a highly qualified team of 435 faculty members The first graduation batch of KMC received recognition by the Medical Council of India, General Medical Council of Great Britain, the Malaysian Medical Council and United States Medical Licensing Examination Board in the later years. Kasturba Medical College and Hospital is the first college to have received the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP) accreditation.

Getting into Kasturba Medical College- Admissions

For MBBS program- NEET
Candidates seeking admission to KMC must qualify National Eligibility Cum Entrance conducted by CBSE. Admission is based upon the rank obtained by candidate in the said exam. Additionally, it is necessary for a candidate to score a minimum of 50% aggregate in NEET to become eligible for admission to MBBS/BDS programs.

Eligibility to apply for KMC MBBS
  • Candidates applying to MBBS program at KMC must be Indian Nationals, Foreign nationals must have OCI/PIO cards.
  • Candidates must be born on or before on or before 31.12.2002.
  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 examination or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English individually with a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology taken together.

NEET (2019) EXAM PATTERN:

  • The question paper comprises of 180 multiple choice questions from Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology
  • The distribution of questions in NEET 2019 was as follows:
  • Candidates must have passed/appeared in 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry Biology/Bio-technology and English as compulsory subjects in class 11th and 12th.
  • The candidates must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the entrance examination. However, for SC/ST/OBC candidates the minimum is 40%.

  • Aspirants would be awarded +4 for every correct answer and a penalty of -1 for every incorrect answer.
  • Minimum eligible score for the entrance of MBBS is 50 percentile for general category, 45 percentile for physically handicapped general candidates and 40 percentile for SC/ST/OBC category candidate.

Reservation Policy at KMC, Manipal:

The distribution of seats is as per the rules of Manipal University. 15% os the total 250 seats are reserved for AI Quota which are filled on the basis of NEET score. The remaining 85% seats are as prescribed by Manipal University. The reservation policy followed by them are: OBC: 27%, SC: 17%, ST: 7.5%
