CUET (UG) 2024: A Brief Comparison of Applicants and Applications Received

The CUET 2024 registration and application process was declared open by the NTA on February 27, 2024. The portal was finally closed on April 5, 2024 (with the correction window open till April 8). Post the closure of the application process of CUET (UG) 2024, NTA released a brief analysis of the applicants and applications received compared to the previous two editions.

The number of candidates who have registered for CUET (UG) 2024 has dropped by around 1.5 lahks this year, but the number of tests opted for has more than doubled (from 28 lahks in 2023 to 57.6 lakh in 2024).

In a major difference from the previous editions, the data released by the NTA indicates a more intensified competition expected in CUET 2024. Every student was allowed to apply for a maximum of six subjects, and the application trend indicates that the number of subjects per applicant rose to 4.3 from 2.3 in the previous year.


Nearly 75% of students will sit for the English exam and 62% for the General Test in CUET 2024. Subject-wise application trends for the majority of the popular domain subjects in science and language papers have recorded a new high. However, there has been a drop in the number of applicants in Commerce, Social Science, and Humanities stream subjects. A brief breakdown and analysis is provided below.
