SET (General) 2020 Analysis

Symbiosis International University conducted Symbiosis Entrance Test – SET (General) 2020 across four days (26 July-29 July 2020). The test meant to ascertain candidate’s aptitude and reasoning skills is the first stage of selection process for the various constituent colleges of Symbiosis International University, including SCMS Pune, Noida and Nagpur for the BBA programs.

Owing to the pandemic, the test was conducted in home proctored online format and the structure of the test was altered with just 75 questions to be attempted instead of the usual 150. The total time allotted to complete the MCQ paper was 75 minutes. Each question had 4 options; and carried one mark each. There was no negative marking for incorrect attempts. The sections were separate and were not timed individually.

General English

The section had one passage followed by five questions. The section was dominated by vocabulary and grammar-based questions, with questions coming from antonyms and synonyms, fill in the blanks, idioms and phrases. Overall, students found the section to be easy. A score of 15+ can be considered good in this section.

Quantitative Aptitude

Like last year, the questions were largely from Arithmetic. Questions were asked from Profit, Loss and Discount, Simple and Compound Interest, Time and Work, Time, Speed and Distance, Averages etc. The level of difficulty can be summed up slightly moderate, with some questions needing more time to solve. A score of 14-15 can be considered good in this section.

General Awareness

The GK section had approximately 60% questions coming from Static GK. However, the questions were easy, and one could easily sail through this section, if one had followed CL GK book and Mock Tests. The section saw a mix of topics from where questions were asked: History, Geography, Awards, Organizations, movies, art & culture etc. The static GK part made it slightly difficult. A score of 11-12 can be considered good in this section.

Analytical and Logical Reasoning

The section had questions from every possible area one can think of. There were questions based on series, coding-decoding, blood relations, course of action, syllogisms, direction sense. Most students found the section to be easier. A score of 11-12 can be considered good in this section.

Overall analysis

Overall, the difficulty level of the paper was from easy-moderate. Time constraint wasn’t so much of a factor. There was ample time especially because of the level of difficulty and the nature of the General Reasoning and English section. The cut-offs are expected to be as follows:
