IIM Indore is widely regarded as the best IPM college in India. It launched the programme in 2011, has the most established IPM alumni network, and conducts joint placements with its PGP (MBA) batch. The degree — BA (Foundations of Management) + MBA — is awarded under the IIM Act 2017. Beyond IIMs, institutions like IIFT Kakinada, NALSAR University, Nirma University, and TAPMI Manipal offer strong IPM programmes accessible through IPMAT Indore scores.

IPM is not a replacement for an MBA — it includes one. The five-year programme subsumes a full MBA in its final two years, meaning IPM graduates receive both an undergraduate and a postgraduate management degree. Students who complete all five years graduate with the equivalent of an IIM MBA at 22–23, without ever sitting for CAT.

Based on placement data, IIM Indore consistently reports the highest packages among IPM programmes. The 2024 placement season saw the highest offer at ₹1 crore per annum for an IIM Indore IPM student, with IPM graduates placed alongside the PGP (MBA) batch at top firms in consulting, finance, FMCG, and technology.

There is no stream restriction for most IPM programmes — students from Science, Commerce, and Humanities are all eligible. The exceptions are IIM Amritsar (requires Maths/Applied Maths in Class XII), IIM Shillong (requires Maths/Applied Maths in Class XI and XII), and IIFT Kakinada (requires Maths, Business Maths, or Applied Maths in Class XII). For all other institutions, any stream is welcome.

Yes. Every institution runs an independent admissions process. If you want to be considered by IIM Ranchi, IIFT Kakinada, Nirma University, and NALSAR in addition to IIM Indore, you must submit a separate application — and a separate application fee — to each institution. Your IPMAT Indore registration number links your scores, but the applications themselves are independent.

No. IIM Bodh Gaya’s selection is 100% JIPMAT score-based after clearing sectional cut-offs. IIM Jammu uses JIPMAT Score (95%) + Gender Diversity (5%). Neither college conducts a Personal Interview, making JIPMAT colleges particularly suited to students who prefer a purely exam-based selection process.

Nirma University has the highest intake with 240 seats (156 All India + 84 Gujarat State). Among IIMs, IIM Rohtak leads with 198 seats, followed by IIM Indore with 150 seats. IIM Jammu offers 140 seats, IIM Bodh Gaya 120 seats, IIM Ranchi 60 seats, and IIM Shillong 45 seats.

At IIM Rohtak, a minimum CGPA of 5.0 is required to continue into the MBA phase. Students who exit can pursue a conventional MBA later through CAT. The exit option means the five-year commitment is not irreversible at the point of joining.

Commerce students without Maths can apply to IIM Indore, IIM Ranchi, IIM Jammu, IIM Bodh Gaya, Nirma University, NALSAR, TAPMI, Krea University, and Christ University — all admit students from any stream with no Maths requirement. Note that IPMAT and JIPMAT both test Quantitative Ability, which requires preparation in arithmetic and algebra regardless of Class XII subjects. Commerce students typically have a natural advantage in the Verbal Ability sections of both exams.

IIM Indore (est. 2011): IPMAT covers QA + VA only, with separate sectional time limits. Final selection — IPMAT 65% + PI 35%. Stronger legacy, joint PGP placements, and 9+ institutions accept the score.

IIM Rohtak (est. 2019): IPMAT adds a Logical Reasoning section, 120 questions in a combined 120-minute window. Final selection — IPMAT 55% + Academics 30% + PI 15%, giving significantly more weight to Class X and XII marks. IIM Rohtak has the highest IIM IPM seat intake at 198.
