What is DAF-1? 

The DAF-1 or Detailed Application Form 1 is a crucial part of the UPSC examination process. Only the candidates who cleared the UPSC Prelims Exam will be eligible to fill out the form. All qualified candidates must fill out this form within the given deadline, i.e., before 25th June. Not filling the DAF-1 will lead to the aspirant not being able to appear for the UPSC Main examination.

The DAF-1 requires candidates to specify further details about themselves, like their educational background, personal details, category certificate (if applicable), service preferences, etc. This information, once submitted, is final and cannot be edited. How to Fill the Detailed Application Form 1 UPSC: Step-by-Step Guide

To fill out the UPSC Detailed Application Form 1, candidates should follow the steps mentioned below. 

Step 1:  Visit the official website, upsc.gov.in.

Step 2: Navigate to DAF-1 and find the detailed application form.

Step 3: Fill out the required details. Candidates should fill out all the required fields, including Personal Information, Education Background, Parental/Family Details, Employment Record, Document Upload, Service & Cadre Preferences, etc. 

Step 4: Upload the Required Documents. For example, Proof of Age, Educational Qualifications, category certificate or PwBD certificate (if applicable), and gazette notification in case of a name change. The complete list of documents is given below. 

Step 5: Pay the Application Fee.

Male and OBC candidates must pay a registration fee of Rs. 200. However, SC, ST, PwBD, and OBC candidates are exempt from paying the fee. 

Step 6: Review and submit the form.

Ensure all the details are filled correctly, as you won’t be able to correct them if filled incorrectly. Then, review all the details and submit the form.

Documents Required to fill the DAF-1 

While filling out the DAF-1, candidates should ensure that they have the scanned copies of the following documents, as they will need to upload them. The copies should be scanned clearly and adhere to the size requirements specified by UPSC. 

  1. Matriculation Certificate. (For Proof of Age)
  2. Degree Certificate. (For Proof of Educational Qualification)
  3. Final year appearing certificate, in case you haven’t received your degree certificate yet. 
  4. Identity Proof, like an Aadhar Card or any government-issued ID. 
  5. Category/ Caste Certificate (If applicable). 
  6. Scanned copy of recent passport-sized photograph. 
  7. Scanned copy of signature. 
  8. Disability Certificate (if applicable).
  9. Domicile Certificate 

What does this mean for the candidates? 

The commencement of the registration holds extreme importance for the candidates, as it marks the beginning of the next phase of the examination process. All qualified candidates must mandatorily fill out and submit the form before the deadline. Failing to fill out the UPSC Mains DAF-1 would mean that the candidate would not be eligible to appear for the Mains exam.
