Academic priorities and focus of the students suffered a huge setback, with the introduction of CUET in the year 2022. It revamped the entire UG eligibility & admission criteria in India. While students had to solely focus on their class 12 Board exam preparation, now CUET has been added to the list. UGC has declared that UG admissions to all the participating universities will be based on the CUET score of the students and not the Board marks. 

Though the initiative might have taken the students by surprise, it has a wide range of positive implications. It ended the extremely high cut-off race for the top colleges and universities based on Board marks (whose marking scheme and paper pattern varies from one Board to another). Also, CUET will provide all UG aspirants across the country a common playground to showcase their knowledge and skills in a common evaluation exam and secure their admission to their dream colleges and universities.

If the admissions will be based on the CUET score of the candidate, then why are we talking about the class 12 Boards here?

In an interesting move, the University of Delhi (DU) announced that it will consider the Board marks to decide the tie-breaker in its UG admission process. Now, what is exactly a tie-breaker scenario? The university has announced that if there are two or more students who have applied for the same college and course and have the same CUET score, the candidate's class 12 Board marks will be considered. Initially the best of 3, and subsequently best of 4 and 5 will be considered. Even a tie, at this point the age of the candidates will be considered and the older one will get the seat.

Considering these aspects, it is essential that the students put in equal effort for their CUET as well as Boards preparation. To secure a seat at their dream college with the course of their choice, students need to score excellent marks in both exams.
