Decision Making in XAT: How to Prepare?
XAT has an exam pattern similar to CAT except for a slight difference, that is, the presence of the Decision Making section in XAT. The Decision Making section is unique to XAT and is not found in any other MBA entrance exams in India. Since the preparation of all other sections is done during other MBA entrance exams, the Decision Making section requires a dedicated exam strategy and separate preparation.
Here are a few tips to prepare for the Decision Making section in the XAT exam:
> Understand the Syllabus: The syllabus is crucial to defining a preparation strategy as it allows you to identify your comprehension of the topics covered in the section.
> Leave Unfamiliar Questions: Do not attempt questions you are unsure about or those that consume a lot of time. Do keep in mind that XAT has a negative marking system.
> Use the Elimination Method: As many answers seem similar to one another it is a better approach to identify the incorrect answers than finding the right answer directly.
> Benefit in the Situation: Focus on maximizing the benefit of the stakeholders in the questions and minimizing the damage caused by the situation.
> No Personal Opinions: Do not allow your personal opinions to influence your answer. Always rely on the logical aspects of the questions instead of your own sentiments.
> Review Previous Year Papers: Solve the previous year’s questions to familiarize yourself with the section, types of questions, and exam pattern.
> Attempt Mock Tests: Practise with mock tests to analyze the weaknesses and strengths and improve appropriately and become familiar with commonly asked questions.
As this section focuses on reasoning, the preparation for this section can be done through the practise of questions and understanding the various sets & topics that are commonly asked in the Decision Making section.
Best of luck!
