IIM-K Introduction

The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM-K) founded in 1996, in collaboration with the State Government of Kerala, was the 5th IIM to be established. IIM Kozhikode was the first institute in Asia to offer a distance learning programme in management for working executives. This year-long Executive Management Education Programme is today considered to be the best distance learning program available in the country having 450 class contact. IIM-K setup its satellite campus in Kochi in August 2012. IIM-K offers the following programmes:

P.S: Candidate would have to secure 60 percentile in aggregate and 50 percentile in each of the sections in order to be considered for further selection processes. Relaxation: Candidates possessing PGDM (full-time 2-year program) of IIMs with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 out of 4.33 or equivalent will be exempt from having to take qualifying tests.

Eligibility for PGP

  • The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or an equivalent CGPA (45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PWD)/Differently Able (DA) category) awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. The candidate may possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
  • Candidates appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. However, it may be noted that such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally, only if they submit a certificate from the Principal / Registrar of their University/institution (issued on or before the date as stipulated by the respective IIM) stating that they have completed all the requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of the issue of the certificate.
  • The candidates seeking admission as an NRI should produce with the application a certificate from the Indian Embassy/High Commission/Consulate of the country where the candidate is currently based, stating that the candidate has been resident in that country continuously for a period of not less than 18 months.

Eligibility for EPGP

  • A Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent in any discipline with minimum 50%** aggregate mark or equivalent CGPA
  • 3 Years of managerial/ entrepreneurial/ professional experience*** after successful completion of graduation as on 4th January 2018.

***Work experience before completion of graduation will not be considered for calculating total work experience. CA/CS/ICWAI articleship will not be considered as experience.

The minimum eligibility criteria adopted by IIM Kozhikode in the admissions for the Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (Two Year) at Kochi Campus is given below:

Eligibility for FPM

One of the following qualifications is required for eligibility.
  • Post-Graduate degree or equivalent in any discipline (including M.A., M.Sc., M.Com, MBA, MCA, M.Tech., etc.) with at least 55% marks or an equivalent CGPA.
  • Professional qualifications such as CA, ICWA and CS with at least 50% marks or equivalent.
  • Professional qualifications such as MBBS and LLB with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA. *
  • Engineering degrees, viz., B.Tech, BE, etc. with at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA.*
  • Students in their final year can also apply if they fulfil all the requirements by June 30 of that year.

* An additional minimum 3 years of relevant work experience is required for applying to Marketing Area

IIM-K Admission Procedure

  • For PGP Programme
  • There are 2 stages that a candidate goes through before getting selected for IIM-Kozhikode PGDM Programme.

    • The first stage is appearing for the CAT Exam conducted by the IIMs (GMAT for the international candidates).
    • 2. On clearing the required cut-offs and the composite score, a candidate is called for the GD/WAT and PI. The candidate has to write a short essay and participate in a group discussion on a topic provided by IIM-K. The topic is announced at the venue just before the GD/WAT.

  • For EPGP Programme
    • Admission to the programme is based on a personal interview (through interactive live platform of TCLL), evaluation of profile and Statement of Purpose (SOP).
  • For FPM Programme
    • 1. Candidates will be shortlisted on the recommendation of respective areas based on their profile and Qualifying Scores.
    • 2. Such candidates will be invited for a Personal Interview (and written test for certain areas) at IIM Kozhikode.

IIM-K Eligibility and Selection Criteria

IIM Kozhikode adopts a three-staged selection process for its admissions to the PGP 2018-2020 batch.

Stage 1: Registration of candidates meeting the minimum eligibility criteria

All candidates opted for IIM Kozhikode and fulfilling the above mentioned minimum eligibility criteria would receive a call for online registration for admissions to IIM Kozhikode. This a pre-interview registration process and not the call for interview.

Stage 2: Shortlisting for Personal Interview (PI), Group Discussion (GD) and Writing Ability Test (WAT)

A shortlist of candidates in each category will be created based on an Aggregate Index Score (AIS). The AIS is computed based on the performance in CAT 2017, Class XII, Bachelor’s degree marks and work experience. The weight of each component in the AIS is as follows:

CAT Index Score

Scaled Scores from the three sections (with equal weightages) of CAT 2017 will be considered for the computation of the CAT Index Score.

HSC/ Class XII/Equivalent/Diploma Score

The percentage of marks obtained in HSC/Class XII/Equivalent/Diploma score would be the aggregate marks of all subjects that appear in the marks sheet or grade sheet irrespective of the board’s calculation.

Diversity Score

To ensure diversity, marks are awarded for both gender diversity and academic diversity. Only female candidates are eligible for gender diversity. A candidate with any bachelor’s degree other than engineering/technology (B.Tech/BE) or equivalent will be eligible for academic diversity score. A candidate is entitled only to an applicable diversity score of 5 either from gender diversity or academic diversity.

The short-listed candidates will have to appear for a GD/WAT followed by a Personal Interview (PI).

Stage 3: Final shortlist

After the conclusion of PI and GD/WAT, the final scores will be computed. Category wise merit list will be prepared based on the final scores.
