IIndian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) conducted the Admission Test 2016-2018 for admission into its two-year program in International Business, on Sunday, November 22, 2014. The test was conducted across various centers in the country between 10 am and 12 noon.
Just like previous years, IIFT did not prove to be a cakewalk. While the total number of questions went up from 118 last year to 124, the difficulty level of the paper as a whole went slightly down from last year.
There was a total of 124 questions spread over four sections with a negative marking of 1/3rd of the maximum marks allotted to that question. The details of the sections are given below:

*Cutoff for General category students is most likely to be in the range of 46-48 marks. The corresponding figures for NC/OBC and SC/ST/PWD should be around 41-43 and 36-38 marks respectively.
GK section of this year's IIFT test was on expected lines. Questions were from static GK and current affairs. These were from history, geography, polity, science, business& economy, sports & misc.As many as 6 questions were from CL's mock & compendium. The difficulty level remains almost same hence the expected cut-off of GK is expected to be in the range of 2.00 - 2.50. An attempt of 10 - 12 questions with an effective score of 4 - 5 could be considered as a good one.

This was a section that the students could have capitalized on by judiciously selecting the right questions. While RC passages were expectedly lengthy, at least 7-8 questions, which were specific information based, could have been attempted without reading the passages completely. It was not wise to attempt time consuming questions that required evaluation of all the options.
English Usage questions were relatively simpler than last years' with moderate level of Vocabulary and Para-jumble questions. A candidate could have easily attempted around 15-16 questions in about 20-22 minutes. The section was dominated by Vocabulary. The absence of grammar questions was surprising and there were a few questions on Idioms and Phrasal Verbs and Figure of speech.

Apart from the 3 questions on selection, which had language related errors, the rest of the questions were easy to moderate. All sets were easy in nature and could have been attempted. All singlets were very easy and must have been attempted all in order to maximize. A good candidate could have attempted 15-16 questions in 25 min.
DI portion of this section was extremely difficult. There were two wrong sets – one due to mismatch of unit and the other due to wrong scale. One out of the remaining two sets was extremely difficult due to cumbersome calculation. A good candidate could have attempted 4-5 questions in this subsection in 15-18 min.

Difficulty level of this section dropped significantly compared to that of the last year. The section was dominated by questions from arithmetic area. Most of questions were doable. There were couple of questions that had technical errors, and a significant number of questions had language related issues. A well prepared candidate could have attempted 14-16 questions in 30-35 min.
